Yesterday two females of Egernia stokesii (Gidgee Skink) gave birth to 9 excellent babies (4+5). The babies are really nice, the length is about 6 cm. The breeding stock including 10 adults have been raised from c.b. babies since 2005. The founder stock was received from german breeder. It is second generation obtained in BION Terrarium Center. Interesting INFO: the behavior of these skinks is quite unique among lizards. They are diurnal and tend to be very secretive if not tamed. Foraging and basking are done close to their dwellings and the security of rocky crevices. It has been found that Gidgee Skinks accumulate small piles of feces near their basking areas. It appears that a skink can differentiate between its own pile and that of another individual within the area. These fecal piles may be used to mark territories. They are also able to distinguish between kin and non-related individuals. For more info please read here.
