In 1985 graduated from the Nature and geography Department of the Kiev Pedagogical Institute. From 1985 till 1987 – was in the army. From 1987 till 1989 worked as a teacher of biology and geography in the secondary school. From 1989 till 2000 he organised public exhibition of exotic reptiles in Kiev. In 1994 Dmitri founded BION Terrarium Center (BION), located in Kiev, the Ukraine. Today BION is one of the largest European companies reptiles business operations. BION collaborates with experts on herpetoculture, zoo’s and breeders all over the world. As the matter of fact he visited many reptile’s shows and business operations all over the world. Dmitri organized business and field trips to the countries of Middle Central Asia and Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Madagascar, the USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Salvador, Peru. From 2002 till 2007 he was the publisher and chief editor of “EKZO” – an international magazine оn wild nature. He is a member of the Union of journalists of the Ukraine. In 2007 Dmitri established “Live Exotic” – the branch of BION which specializes on promotion of exotic reptiles and merchandises for reptiles in the Ukraine and in the countries of the former Soviet Union. He is actively involved in popularization of terrarium-keeping (herpetoculture) as a hobby and branch of science. In November 2010, in cooperation with Sergei Ryabov, Dmitri Tkachev established on BION’s base the International Reptiles’ Breeding and Research Center (IRBRC BION). He is married and has a son. |

Degrees: Graduated from the Biological Faculty of the Tula State Pedagogical Institute in 1984;
Ecology, reproductive biology and taxonomy of reptiles and amphibians of Asia and Europe; Developing of methods for adaptation and reproduction of rare reptile and amphibian species, especially from endangered regions in captivity for further conservation and reintroduction; Taxonomy and distribution of some Lepidoptera in Vietnam.
1984-1987 – the Head of the Department of Nature of the Tula Zoological Museum; In 1987 founded a Tula Exotarium – the only Zoo specialized on reptiles in Russia. From 1987 till October 2011 – was a Director of the Tula Exotarium, the Basic Laboratory of Herpetological Investigations of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Center on study, breeding and conservation of reptiles; From November 2011 till present – Chief, International Reptile’s Breeding & Research Center BION (IRBRC)

Reproductive biology and taxonomy of reptiles according to the joint programs with the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. More than 35 species of the world herpetofauna were bred for the first time under captive conditions.

In 1994 has graduated from the Kharkov State University, School of Biology specialization "Zoology and Ecology" and School of Economy, specialization "Statistics". Then, together with A.M. Rudik and D.G. Kovrajskij, established Biodiversity Laboratory at Kharkov State University where they studied aspects of reptiles’ zooculture. From 1998 he started to work independently on the project of reproducing some lizard species in a bulk and developing reproductive techniques for rare species of reptiles. As the matter of fact he is the most successful chamaeleon’s breeder (up to 10 species) in the Former Soviet Union. Sergij is owner of private lizard’s breeding center in Kharkov, Ukraine. He took apart in a number of expeditions to various regions of Central Asia (Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan), South East Asia (Thailand, Malaysia) and Madagascar. |
